Establish Connections
•Establish schools and teachers that would be prepared to invest in the time for this happen.
•Link with schools in cities abroad through e.g. "epals", "GlobalSchoolNet", "Sister Cities", or "iearn"
•Explore secure email options, if the school does not have its own, e.g. http://www.ezpzemail.com/index.php, "kidlink"
•Consider language differences—might want to do this project as interdisciplinary by combining language and art classes
•Make sure that art teachers have IT support and training (both countries)
•Decide into which art class this will be integrated and how it will extend the art practices of that class
•Evaluate the optimal age and skill level for this interchange
•Teachers to negotiate and implement collaboration and set up guidelines and protocols for the students

Devise Guidelines
•Keep civil, devise etiquette and conduct rules, use e-moderators
•Maintain collaborative nature, avoid inter-cultural competitiveness
•Strive for a student centered and teacher moderated project
•Consider internet safety, e.g. http://www.kid-surf.com/index.htm

Integrate into Curriculum
How would this fit into the art curriculum? Should this be extra-curricula or intra-curricula? Consider how the art process would fit into these formats, for instance, sketch books and journals could be part of the process that result in the finished artwork that will be displayed in the final web gallery. The use of Skype, emails, and blogs as avenues of communication would be useful for the workflow of this project. Skype could be used for synchronous time critiques and discussions, blogs and emails for asynchronous problem solving. Uploading images, videos and podcasts could add another dimension to either the blogs as well as the galleries. The final gallery could be a public website such as this and would include an about page, gallery, and blog page. Only the first names of students would be used for reasons of internet safety. Taking this into consideration, the process part of the collaboration would have to be private communication between the students through secure sites such as kidlink and skype.
